Better is more a series of articles than a coherent book. In some ways, it felt like Gawande was applying elements of lean development methodology to hospital systems.
- Find ideas by involving everybody on the team. (Chapter on handwashing)
- Measure your goal (even if hard) (chapter on the Apgar score)
The two bits that I found useful were at the very end when it comes to performance:
Count something. If you count something you find interesting, you will learn something interesting Write something. Published word is a declaration of membership to a community and also a willingness to contribute something meaningful to it.
