Exposition disguised as a mystery

This is my third time reading this book because I have not read the Arabic version.

I originally thought, and still think, that this is the worst book in the Harry Potter series. The narration is similar to the “villain of the week” type seen in TV series. The portrayal of the plot is very formulaic. Afterwards, the summer vacation starts soon, and everyone is happy.

However, this time I discovered that the second book is not a new story. “The Chamber of Secrets” is a 200-page exposition of the magical world disguised as a mystery novel. Rowling introduces readers to horcruxes, Voldemort’s background, the hatred of wizarding families, and the history of Hogwarts. These concepts all lay the groundwork for the plot of the remaining five books.

All this does not mean that I enjoyed “The Chamber of Secrets,” but at least now I understand why Rowling used this approach.
